Barbara Scott, MA
Director, Pink Journey Foundation
Barbara Scott has been dedicated to supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer since her Pink Journey began with her own breast cancer diagnosis in 1981. Barbara was later diagnosed with lung metastasis in 1983. In 1991 she was diagnosed with a new primary breast cancer and a diagnosis of BRCA1. Her personal journey raised her awareness of the need for women to support other women diagnosed with breast cancer. While supporting women with breast cancer, she has a special interest in working with women with metastatic or recurrent breast cancer.
In 1988 Barbara participated in developing an innovative peer support program for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. This program continues today as Breastlink Angels and Pink Journey Angels providing individual peer support for women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Barbara also continues to be a trainer of new peer volunteers in this program since 1988. Barbara developed and facilitated a support group for newly diagnosed women with breast cancer in 1989 at the Breast Care Center of Orange working with Dr. John West. She facilitated this support group from 1989 until 2016. In 1991 Barbara worked with Dr. Craig Nattkemper in developing and facilitating a unique support group for husbands and partners of women with breast cancer. This unique support group continued until 2015.
Barbara has a master’s degree in education and was an educator for 38 years. She continues her support of women with breast cancer as a Breastlink Angel and now as a board member of The Pink Journey Foundation.
