I was one of those people whose life had not been touched by breast cancer. I have no family history, didn’t know anyone, not even a friend of a friend, who had it. Then one week before Christmas 2011, I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. Instead of shopping for Christmas presents, I was scheduling doctor’s appointments. I was raising a 3-year-old, had just started a new job and now was about to get on the breast cancer roller coaster. I remember, after I had completed my chemo treatments and surgery, someone calling me about support group meetings and asked if I wanted to attend. I told her I was okay with everything and didn’t need to participate in a support group. She said to me, “Well, you can help support others.” And I said ABSOLUTELY! Breast cancer brought me closer to my spirituality, and for that I will always be grateful.
